A great all-American staple of the Southern wardrobe, the seersucker suit screams hazy,
hot, humid, traditional wear. No less an esteemed personage than Atticus Finch braved
the heat (all sorts of heat) in the full three-piece version in “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
Seersucker is a cotton fabric,
commonly striped or checkered,
used to make clothing for summer
wear, with a strong tradition in the
American South. The word
originates from the Persian words
"shir o shekar," meaning "milk and
sugar", from the resemblance of its
smooth and rough stripes to the
smooth surface of milk and bumpy
texture of sugar.

The Seersucker

2 ounces Flor de Cana white rum

1/2 ounce cinnamon bark syrup

1 ounce lemon juice 1 1/2

strawberry

Muddle one strawberry, shake
ingredients with three ice cubes
and strain into a pilsner glass
with crushed ice. Garnish with
1/2 strawberry.
The Madras

1 1/2 oz Kettle One vodka

4 oz cranberry juice

1 oz orange juice
1 orange wedge

Shake ingredients with three ice
cubes and strain into a pilsner
glass with crushed ice. Garnish
with orange slice.
